We brought the iconic Quaker brand into the 21st century through innovative experiences, digital advertising, engaging content, and a redesigned website. We took a data-driven approach to Quaker’s online presence, delivering on what consumers truly wanted, as well as utilized breakthrough ad technology to better reach and engage the audience. In addition, we delivered two firsts for the category: an Alexa recipe skill and an intelligent Facebook Messenger bot named OTIS.

Before it was a mainstream food trend, we discovered something special was about to emerge via Google Trends and jumped on it. The brand invested heavily into overnight oats, and even started developing their own overnight oats product. We created an entire content strategy around it, including the category’s first Alexa skill.

High profile partnerships brought new audiences into the brand. We created everything from recipe partnerships with The New York Times, to interactive games with Disney, to native content with Brit & Co–driving attention with an unexpectedly modern approach for the brand.

We brought our Quaker client proactive ideas around innovation regularly. After building one of the first Alexa skills in the category–we pitched another early adoption opportunity: a recipe assistant AI chatbot built for Facebook Messenger.

We quickly prototyped a proof of concept, and sold the concept in. Within weeks, we’d written hundreds of scripted responses (with a decidedly playful, non-robotic tone), and built the entire experience from the ground up.

Knowing our audience has a deep-seated interest in recipes, we wanted to reach them through every channel possible. Facebook Messenger gave us the platform to become one of the first brands in the category to create a personalized experience through an intelligent chatbot. Dubbed “OTIS”, the Quaker bot uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to learn about each individual consumer and serves up recipe suggestions it knows they’ll love.

Since then, the chatbot has been used by tens of thousands of recipe seekers, and earned mentions from The Drum, Smartbrief, Adobe, and more.

As a part of overhauling Quaker’s digital properties, a robust recipe strategy drove success for the brand. With a strong connection to search, social, and Pinterest, we effectively doubled site traffic and time spent on site. Users were able to favorite content to create a tailored experience and to share and save recipes they love. More importantly, we learned what they’re looking for, and were able to surface up content tailored to their interests.
